2016 Together4Hope Suggested Training Schedule and Walk Routes

The following is a suggested training schedule to assist you with getting you prepared for the Together4Hope 2day/40mile event.

This schedule and routes were prepared by a team of volunteers experienced with multi-day walks. For your safety we suggest you consult with your doctor before participating in any multi day walk or training schedule. Note that there is one “back to back” scheduled training walk the weekend of September 10th/11th. Peer support is wonderful inspiration when training. If you would like to form a group to meet and walk these routes together please contact Robyn Hima.

Please remember to bring plenty of hydration, snacks, and sun-block and don’t forget to stretch at that first mile mark!

Week 1
Sat., June 4th: 4 Miles
Start at Harbor Fish Café, Carlsbad.  Exit parking lot going north on Ocean St. Right  on Oak.  Right at Carlsbad Blvd. and continue south on the lower sidewalk.  Stop/stretch at Tamarack.  Continue south and go left on Cannon to cross Carlsbad Blvd.  Left on Carlsbad Blvd. to Tamarack.  Left, cross Carlsbad Blvd.  Stop at restrooms and stretch.  Continue north on lower walk back to Harbor Fish Cafe. 

Week 2
Sat., June 11th: 5 Miles
Start at Ruby's Diner at Carlsbad Outlet, park across from Ruby's Diner. Head out of parking lot , Right on Paseo Del Norte to Cannon.  STOP/STRETCH  Left on Cannon (bathroom at Westmart gas station) to Carlsbad Blvd.  Cross Carlsbad Blvd turn right and head to Tamarack bathrooms.  STOP/STRETCH and turn around and go back. 

Week 3
Sat., June 18th: 6 Miles
Start at Buccaneer Beach Park, Oceanside.  From parking lot, go north.  Left on Wisconsin.  Down the hill to the strand and continue north to first restroom.  STOP/STRETCH.  Continue north to pier and walk the pier.  After pier walk, continue north (to the left).  At Breakwater, go right.  At Pacific, go left and follow it around to Harbor.  Cross the street and go right on the boardwalk to the first restroom.   STOP/STRETCH Turn around and go back the same route (without walking pier). 

Week 4
Sat., June 25th: 7 Miles
Start at Ruby's Diner at Carlsbad Outlet, park across from Ruby's diner. Head out of parking lot.  Right on Paseo Del Norte to Cannon.  STOP/STRETCH  Left on Cannon (bathroom at Westmart gas station) to Carlsbad Blvd.  Cross Carlsbad Blvd turn right and head to Tamarack bathrooms. STOP/STRETCH and then head down stairs right and continue north to top of path.  Continue left on Carlsbad Blvd. to corner of Carlsbad Village Drive, cross street and head to Starbucks.  STOP/STRETCH  Turn around and go back same route.

Week 5
Sat., July 2nd: 8 Miles
Start at Moonlight Beach, Encinitas.  Exit parking lot and go left, and then left at 3rd St. and go down the hill.  Right on B, left at Coast Hwy.  Continue north to Pannikin.  STOP/STRETCH.  Keep north and enter Quail Park.  STOP/STRETCH.  Continue north and shortly after Ave. Encinas, enter campground.  Continue to 4th restroom.  STOP/STRETCH  Same route back with same stops.

Week 6
Sat., July 9th: 9 Miles
Start at Miguel’s, Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad.  Exit parking lot and go right, cross street.  At Cannon, STOP/STRETCH.  Left on Cannon.  Left at El Arbol. Right at Cerezo, cross Carlsbad Blvd and go right.  At Tamarack parking lot go down stairs, thru lot and up hill to restrooms.  STOP/STRETCH  Go down stairs to sea wall and go north, go thru parking lot by Harbor Fish.  Keep north then right at Cypress. Right at Carlsbad Blvd. Left at Grand and go to Starbucks.  STOP/STRETCH  RETURN ROUTE:  Go back north along Carlsbad Blvd.  Cross Grand and go Right.  Left at Cypress.  Left at Ocean and continue through parking lot at Harbor Fish.  Go down hill to sea wall.  Go up stairs at Tamarack STOP/STRETCH  Cross Tamarack and continue south on 101.  Left at Cerezo.  Left at El Arbol.  Right on Cannon.  Right on Avenida Encinas back to parking lot. 

Week 7
Sat., July 16th: 11 Miles
Start at Moonlight Beach, Encinitas.  Exit parking lot and go left, then right at 3rd Street, follow it all the way to Highway 101, then right.  STOP/STRETCH at Swami sign  Continue south (past restaurants) to beach.  STOP/STRETCH  Keep going south to Via de la Valle and go left.  Then left at Cedros.  Right on Cofair and follow around and right on Cedros.   Left on Lomas Santa Fe.  Cross 101 and go right on Acacia. Right on Ocean.  Left on 101.  RESTROOM/STRETCH  Continue north on 101.  Left on B. Left on 3rd to go up hill and back to parking lot.

Week 8
Sat., July 23rd: 13 Miles
Start at Lomas Santa Fe Starbucks, Solana Beach.  Exit back of lot to Rodolpho and go right.  Cross Stephens and go left.  At Via de la Valle go right.  At Cedros go right.  At Lomas Santa Fe go left.  Cross 101 and continue to Fletcher Cove.  RESTROOM/STRETCH North on Plaza to Pacific. Left on Ocean. Left on 101 and continue to J Street. RESTROOM/STRETCH/EAT at Starbucks. South on 101 and cross at J Street and continue south on 101.  Enter camp ground and continue south.  Exit campground by Kook and continue south to the restroom before Charlie’s.  Continue south.  Right at Ocean St. Left on Acacia.  Right on Plaza to Fletcher Cove. RESTROOM/STRETCH.  South on Sierra.  Left at Border.  Cross 101 and go left on the path to go north.  Right at Lomas Santa Fe.  Right into parking lot at first entrance and cross parking lot back to cars.

Week 9
Sat., July 30th: 10 Miles
Start at Jolly Roger Restaurant, Oceanside Harbor.  Leave parking lot and follow sidewalk around harbor to RESTROOM/STRETCH (1mile mark).  Continue west and go left on Pacific and left on S. Harbor.  Right to cross bridge. Right on Breakwater. Left on strand continue to pier. STOP/STRETCH  Walk pier then continue south on strand.  Left at Wisconsin and cross Pacific.  Go right to Buccaneer Park. RESTROOM/STRETCH  Continue south, left on Myers.  Cross Cassidy.  Right on street then right on Pacific Terrace.  Cross Cassidy and take sidewalk back to Buccaneer.  Continue north. Left on Wisconsin.  Right on strand.  Walk pier.  Continue north on strand.  RESTROOM/STRETCH  Right on Breakwater. Cross Pacific and go left.  Left on S. Harbor, Right on Pacific, Right on sidewalk to RESTROOM/STRETCH.  Follow sidewalk around harbor back to Jolly Roger.

Week 10
Sat., Aug. 6th: 14 Miles
Start at Carlsbad Costco, park along the side parallel to Palomar Airport Road near the shops.  Walk up hill to cross Palomar Airport road and head up Armada .  Follow Armada to Cannon (stop and stretch 1 mile), turn left and then left on Car Country to the outlets (bathroom stop) leave the outlets and turn right on Paseo Del Norte, left on Cannon right on Carlsbad Blvd.  Stop at Tamarack bathroom, head down to lower level and walk up behind Harbor fish to Beech.  Take a right and then left on Carlsbad Blvd and head to Oceanside.  Turn left on Eaton.  Right on Broadway.  Left on Cassidy.  Right on Myers and head down to Buccaneer Park.  Return using the same route.

Week 11
Sat., Aug. 13th: 15 Miles
Start at Ralph’s off of Poinsettia and Avenida Encinas. Leave parking lot go right on Ave Encinas, cross Poinsettia and continue on to Palomar Airport RD (if needed you can stop across street at MacDonald’s for a bathroom break). Left on Palomar, take path down to Hilton Garden Inn and head south on Carlsbad Blvd to light.  Cross Carlsbad Blvd and head south (left). Enter camp ground at top of hill and stop at first bathroom.  Walk to end of campground and exit, continue south on Carlsbad Blvd.  *Can stop at Ponto Beach bathrooms if needed.  Continue south to A Street (block before Encinitas Blvd.) turn right, left on 3rd St and right on B street to restrooms. RESTROOMS/STRETCH.  Return via same route.

Week 12
Sat., Aug. 20th: 11.8 Miles
Start at Ralph’s off of Poinsettia and Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad.  Exit the parking lot and go right on Avenida Encinas.  Right at Poinsettia.  Left at Paseo del Norte. STOP/STRETCH at Camino De Las Ondas.   Right at Palomar Airport Road. Left at Armada. Left on Cannon.  Left on Car Country.  Left into back of Company Stores. RESTROOM/STRETCH  Exit the front out to Paseo del Norte and go right.  At light, go left on Cannon and follow it all the way to the beach.  Cross Carlsbad Blvd. and go right (north) all the way to Tamarack.  RESTROOM/STRETCH  Turn around and go back south along Carlsbad Blvd.  Left at Cannon.  Right at Avenida Encinas.  Continue all the way and cross Poinsettia.  Follow to the last entrance into Ralph’s and back to cars. 

Week 13
Sat., Aug. 27th: 15 Miles
Start at Buccaneer Beach Park:  North on Pacific.  Left on Wisconsin. RESTROOM/STRETCH.  Continue north on strand and walk pier.  Continue north on strand. Right on Breakwater.  Left on Pacific and over the bridge.  Left on S. Harbor. Right on Pacific and stay straight ahead to beach outlet and back.  Left on sidewalk by the harbor and follow all the way around the harbor to RESTROOM/STRETCH near Jolly Roger.  Turn around and head back same route.  Walk pier and RESTROOM/STRETCH just south of the pier.  Continue south on strand.  Left on Wisconsin.  Right on Pacific to Buccaneer.  Pass Buccaneer and left on Myers.  Left on Cassidy.  Right on Broadway.  Left on Eaton.  Right on Carlsbad Blvd. at Angelo Burger.  Continue south over the bridge into Carlsbad and right onto Ocean.  Pass behind Harbor Fish and continue south on sidewalk to stairs at Hemlock.  Down the stairs and then back north on the lower beach wall.  RESTROOM/STRETCH before going back up the hill to Harbor Fish.  Continue north on Ocean.  Right on Carlsbad Village Drive.  Cross Carlsbad Blvd and go to Starbucks for RESTROOM/STRETCH.  Continue north and cross Carlsbad Blvd.  Continue north and cross bridge headed to Oceanside.  Left on Eaton.  Right at Broadway.  Left at Cassidy.  Right at bridge and go up high sidewalk all the way to Buccaneer parking lot.   

Week 14
Sat., Sep. 3rd: 13 Miles
Start at Carlsbad Company Stores, park across from Ruby's Diner towards the street away from shops.  Exit parking lot and go right at Paseo del Norte.  Right at Car Country Drive.   At Cannon, STOP/STRETCH then go left.  Cross Ave Encinas and go left.  to McDonalds. RESTROOM/STRETCH.  Cross Palomar Airport Road and continue south on Ave Encinas.  Cross Poinsettia.  Left at Ralph’s entrance.  RESTROOM/STRETCH  Continue south along sidewalk.  Left to Avenida Encinas.  Cross Carlsbad Blvd.and bear left to enter campground.  At last restroom before campground exit, STOP/STRETCH.  Exit and continue north to Tamarack.  RESTROOM/STRETCH  Go down to seawall, through parking lot, up the stairs, then right on 101.  Left at Cannon.  Cross Paseo del Norte.  Right at Car Country Drive.   Left at Paseo Del Norte and back to parking lot. 

Week 15
Sat., Sep. 10th: 18 Miles
Back to Back “SATURDAY”:  Start at Jolly Roger in Oceanside.  Walk around Harbor stopping at restrooms (1 mile) turn left at stop sign and cross street to N. Pacific turn right.  Right on Breakwater walk strand (depending on light you could walk pier now or at end of walk).  Head south.  Left on Wisconsin.  Right on Pacific to Buccaneer Park.  STOP/STRETCH  Continue straight on Pacific to Eaton.  Left on Eaton.  Left on Myers.  Right on Cassidy.  Right on Broadway.  Left on Eaton.  Right on Carlsbad Blvd.  Right on Mountain View follow along turns (can stop at Magee park if needed for restrooms).  Head south on Ocean behind Harbor Fish and veer down lower walkway to Tamarack bathroom.  Continue south on Carlsbad Blvd to Cannon, cross street and stop at park on the corner of Cannon and Carlsbad Blvd. STOP/STRETCH  Right on Carlsbad Blvd. cross street diagonally and head back to Oceanside.  Left on Eaton.  Right on Broadway.  Left on Cassidy.  Right on Myers.  Stop at Buccaneer.  Right on Pacific.  Left on Wisconsin.  Right on strand, walk pier.  Right onto Breakwater.  Left on Pacific.  Left on Harbor Dr.- follow around to turn around and back to bathrooms.  Walk along Harbor-return to Jolly Roger. 

Sun., Sep. 11th: 14 Miles  
Back to Back “SUNDAY”:  Start at Ralph's parking lot off Poinsettia on Avenida Encinas. Exit parking lot and turn left on Avenida Encinas. Cross over Carlsbad Blvd and turn right and go into the state park.  Stop at bathrooms when needed.  Walk through state park and turn left onto Carlsbad Blvd and head north.  Stop at Tamarack bathrooms.  Head down stairs and follow north to Ocean St. behind Harbor Fish.  Continue on Ocean all the way around to Carlsbad Blvd., turn right and head south to Magee Park (halfway point).  Follow same route back to Ralph's parking lot.

Week 16
Sat., Sep. 17th: 10 Miles
Start at Harbor Fish Café, Carlsbad. Exit parking lot going north on Ocean St.  Right on Carlsbad Village Dr.  Right on Carlsbad Blvd.  Continue to Tamarack.  STOP/STRETCH  Continue south, right on Shore and follow around back to Carlsbad Blvd.  Go right all the way to entrance to camp ground. Continue south and exit camp ground.  Go left on Carlsbad Blvd. headed back north.  Right on Cerezo.  Left on El Arbol.  Right on Cannon.  Left on Ave Encinas (restroom at the gas station if needed). Head west on Cannon to Carlsbad Blvd. and go right on the east side of the street.  Right on Oak. Left on Washington.  Left on Carlsbad Village Drive.  Left on Ocean and back to parking lot.
