In 2015 my brother and I rode the long, hard way over the Alps with a fantastic group of riders called the Fireflies. My introduction to this global family of was an inspiration to me. Every year they ride extraordinarily tough cycle routes around the globe with the simple goal of raising money for Cancer charities. We rode the Alps again in 2016 and for the last 3.5 years almost every weekend I have the utter joy of riding with the Fireflies CC Surrey regulars. Don’t underestimate how tough these rides are. Early starts, creaking muscles, heat, rain, snow, mountains; we have seen it all. But it is nothing compared to the hardship that individuals impacted by cancer go through in their battles with the disease. For Those Who Suffer, We Ride.
I always wanted to join my brother on his local ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles but my desire to do the West Coast tour really exploded when I rode with Tara, Bruce, Bill, Allison and Bruce in the Alps in 2016. There I heard about the amazing amount of money that the westies raise for the City of Hope hospital and some of the life changing stories from that extraordinary institution.
