I was not going to ride this year. My 53 year old body could use a break and my family and friends certainly could use a respite from the demands this ride puts on them. Sadly I can't rest while my friends are fighting for their lives. I have two wonderful people that are battling a very real war for their lives this year. My brother in law Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 Colon cancer this year at the age of 49. Mark is undergoing a tremendously aggressive series of chemotherapy treatments that have left him weak and his skin raw and bloody. His three sons, my nephews, are with him for the summer along with my sister and although he is a very private person he has allowed me to ride for him and cancer research. My daughter’s soccer coach and mentor Beth at 36 was diagnosed with cervical cancer and has just undergone 12 series of radiation/ chemotherapy and is trying to put her life back together. Their courage and spirit inspire me everyday. There is no road too steep, no mile too long and no day too hot for me anymore. If you can help me fight this devil please do.The support you give is very real and I feel it when I ride. For those who suffer, I ride.
