As you all know, cancer is a very personal issue for me.  In 1996, what started out as a one-day community service event, quickly turned into a passion.  City of Hope was on a list of charities for me to choose from and I simply liked the name.  :)  After really learning about the hospital and research center, I decided to take it on as my personal charity of choice.  Year after year I raised money and participated in the Walk For Hope - sometimes with friends, sometimes with school, sometimes alone.  When I moved away to New York for school, I continued my support as a Virtual Walker.  

In 2003, living on the other side of the country, I got a call that my mom was merely "not feeling well".  My family downplayed her hospitalization, telling me she was going to be in and out before I could even book a flight.  Intuition told me something was very wrong.  Fortunately, my brother was never very good at keeping secrets and I got it out of him that my mom was diagnosed with cancer and battling a fast acting tumor.  Needless to say, I was on the next flight home. 

Call it karma, fate, luck, coincidence - I don't know.  Somehow my mom ended up at City of Hope, after being turned away from doctor after doctor, turned away from hospital after hospital.

City of Hope ultimately saved my mom and they saved my family. My mom is now a two-time cancer SURVIVOR.

I'm now going on 17 years in my passion to raise awareness & research funds to find a cure for cancer.  That's literally over 50% of my life.  I firmly believe that I will see a cure for cancer in my lifetime - hopefully in my mother's lifetime.
